What determines whether a truck requires a CDL License?
1. The GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of the truck (over 26,000 lbs.) 2. Any vehicle placarded for hazardous materials 3. All buses transporting 16 or more passengers and school buses of any size.
What is the maximum GVW for a NON-CDL truck?
The maximum GVW for a NON-CDL truck is 26,000 lbs. Your vehicle is over the CDL limit when it is 26,001 lbs or more.
My truck has Air Brakes, does that mean I need a CDL license?
No, the brake systems of a vehicle DO NOT determine whether you need a CDL license or not. You will need a CDL license if the GVW exceeds 26,000 lbs, then if the truck has air brakes you will need an Air Brake Endorsement.
What determines the length of the body that I can install on my chassis?
The CA (Cab to Center of Rear Axle Ratio) measurement will determine the length of the body you can put on your truck.
Can I register my truck for under 26,000 lbs even if the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is more?
Yes, you can register a vehicle for any weight, which exceeds the actual weight (empty weight) of the vehicle. You will still need a CDL license if the GVW Rating Plate of the vehicle exceeds 26,000 lbs.
Can I install a longer or shorter body on my truck or can I change the type of body which is on my truck now?
Yes, however changing the length of your body may require chassis alteration (moving the rear axle forward or further back on the frame of the truck.) You can also interchange types of bodies such as Refrigerated Bodies, Dry Van Bodies, Utility Bodies, Flatbed Bodies, Dump Bodies ECT. Goodyear Motors can handle all of these types of alterations and has been doing so since 1948.
How can I keep my vehicle in good condition and what type of maintenance is required?
Goodyear Motors Inc. recommends DAILY checking of fluid levels plus visual inspections of vehicles for any leaks or defects. Regular service intervals of 6,000 miles for oil and filters and 10,000 miles for tune-ups and a complete comprehensive check of the vehicle.
